Showreel
With my last showreel, I included every video I had made that year. I also used videos that I had made outside of college. I decided not to organize everything into categories as I thought it would make for a more interesting video having everything jumbled about. I started out by collecting all my videos and choosing the ones I wouldn’t include. Some of these videos I felt weren’t good enough and some weren’t showcasing the right skills. While making the video I went through each clip and chose a section that I thought was best. I needed to show each video in a way that showed all the best parts. I made it snappier by adding transitions. This just allows everything to flow together. I also found music that was around 3 or 4 minutes long to use to go over the video. One thing I did during editing was decrease the volume of the music when the sound became important. For example, I did this for the section of showreel where my fast cut video was, because the main purpose of that video was the sounds. I would love to replicate this idea for my new showreel.
The difference with my showreel this time, is that I will be sectioning off everything into its own category. This includes, photography, filming, edits, experimenting, and animation. To create these sections, I sorted through all my videos that I had made from Summer 2021 through to now. I checked through all of them so I could see if they were suitable enough to be included in my video. After this, I cut the videos down, showing only the best part of each video. I found that even after doing this, the overall video was too long still so I had to go back over each one to shorten them some more. I was aiming for three minutes. The finished video turned out to be just under four minutes, but there was so much I wanted to include. I added text for each section to explain what they were, and to explain what each video is, to give context. To add an element of interest, I have used different fonts for each section. Once all the text was done, I added in transitions that I thought fit best for the style of the video. I wanted the outcome to be quick, to the point, and eye grabbing so I went with flashier transitions for this effect.
I decided to include a clean looking intro like I did with my last showreel. I copied what I did last time but made a small change where a 2022 text zooms up into frame with a punch sound effect. This was to add impact and let everyone know this was an updated showreel for 2022. I wanted to make it obvious.
The final thing I did was add music. I used a site called Audio Hero, which I have used often, to find upbeat pop music. I entered in what genre of music I wanted, and I found one that I was happy with instantly. I added this music to the video but cut it out around the animation project part of the video as I wanted the viewer to be able to hear the sounds for that particular section.
